Introduction

When you connect a domain to your website, you modify its DNS (Domain Name System) settings. These changes don’t take effect instantly; instead, they can take up to 48 hours to fully propagate across the internet. This period, known as “propagation time,” is the interval it takes for DNS changes to update globally across all servers. Unfortunately, this is a process that cannot be expedited or controlled on our end, as it relies on a variety of factors, including the devices and locations from which the site is accessed.

Why DNS Propagation Takes So Long

DNS propagation can be slow because it involves synchronizing updated DNS records—such as the IP address associated with your domain—across multiple servers worldwide. Even after you make changes to the DNS settings, some servers may still cache outdated information, leading to inconsistencies in DNS resolution. This lag is the primary reason for extended propagation times.

Generally, DNS propagation completes within 24 to 48 hours, but in rare instances, it may take up to 72 hours for changes to propagate across the internet fully.
